ZEBULON — A chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles shut down the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 64 during rush hour traffic on the first day of school this week.
According to Zebulon Police Chief Timothy Hayworth, around 8:30 a.m. a vehicle lost control while trying to take exit 435 to Arendell Avenue at the last second.
The vehicle “spun out of control and turned all the way around,” Hayworth said. A pickup truck pulling a trailer crashed head-on into the spinning vehicle.
Four other vehicles were caught up in the crash, Hayworth said. Four vehicles total were towed from the scene.
The highway was shut down for about 45 minutes.
One person was cited, Hayworth said. Hayworth did not respond to multiple follow-up phone calls requesting the names of those involved and the specific charges.
