Today is the final day to vote in The Wake Weekly’s ninth annual Best of the Best competition. The voting period began July 19 and ballots can be submitted until 5 p.m. today at Votes for Best of the Best can only be submitted online.

Best of the Best is a friendly competition where supporters make nominations and then back their nominees with votes. The first-ever electronic-only nominations process kicked off online in June and readers nominated their favorite local businesses and individuals. The two-week nomination period yielded a total of 14,712 nominations, with the most popular categories being Best Teacher, Best Restaurant Overall and Best Community Organization or Club.

There are 12 groups readers can vote in: Automotive, Kids, Pets, Community Leaders, Education, Real Estate, Beauty & Recreation, Home, Accounting, Legal & Financial, Retail & Specialty Store, Health & Wellness and Food & Drink.

After the ballots are tallied, the Best of the Best awards will be presented Oct. 3 during a new awards ceremony organized by The Wake Weekly and held at Wake Forest’s Renaissance Centre at 405 Brooks St. The awards ceremony will feature dinner provided by The Forks Cafeteria & Catering, a cash bar and music by the Franklinton High School Jazz Ensemble. The keynote speaker will be entrepreneur and philanthropist Brian Hamilton.

There will be an enhanced ceremony format, as attendees can register to win a free, three-day, two-night family vacation and bid for a wide selection of local goods and services at a charity silent auction.

The Best of the Best special edition will then publish Nov. 8.
