WAKE FOREST — The ninth annual Best of the Best awards banquet brought together beloved local businesses and entrepreneurs on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Best of the Best is a friendly competition where supporters make nominations and then back their nominees with votes. There were 138 categories in this year’s Best of the Best voting, and readers submitted 111,899 votes. Of the 138 categories, the five which generated the most votes were: Best Eye Doctor; Best American Homestyle; Best Bakery; Best Corporate Citizen; and Best Restaurant Overall.
There were 12 groups readers could vote in: Automotive, Kids, Pets, Community Leaders, Education, Real Estate, Beauty & Recreation, Home, Accounting, Legal & Financial, Retail & Specialty Store, Health & Wellness and Food & Drink.
Last week’s banquet included a silent auction, featuring items valued at $2,500 provided by 13 local businesses. The auction yielded $900 in donations, which will go to the Rolesville High School Band. The school’s brass quintet provided the evening’s musical entertainment.
Peter Birkner of Birkner Insurance in Rolesville was the master of ceremonies, and entrepreneur and philanthropist Brian Hamilton of the Brian Hamilton Foundation delivered the keynote address.
The Best of the Best special edition, which will be included inside the Nov. 8 issue of The Wake Weekly, will feature the complete listing of all the winners and finalists.
