RALEIGH — You may have forgotten — what with presidential hopefuls already in full swing for 2020 — but there is an election this November that could reshape your local town political makeup.

Candidates who want to appear on the ballot for municipal elections must first file with their county board of elections. The filing period begins noon this Friday (July 5) and will continue until noon July 19.

The election will be Nov. 5 (although Raleigh and Cary will hold elections earlier on Oct. 8). There are no state races on the ballot this year.

The Wake County Board of Elections has a new location: 1200 N. New Hope Road, Raleigh. Candidates running for any office in Wake County must submit their filing paperwork there.

Franklin County Board of Elections remains at 107 Industrial Drive in Louisburg.

Candidates must pay the filing fee at the time they file.

The Wake Weekly will publish a list of all candidates who have filed once the filing period has concluded.
