WAKE FOREST — Students at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School will compete with more than 500 students at the Triangle Chess Tournament on Jan. 9 at the Raleigh Convention Center.

The St. Catherine’s Chess Team has 22 members ranging from kindergarten through sixth grade. Science teacher Brian Mannette founded the St. Catherine’s Chess Program last spring to expose students to the educational benefits of being a chess player. Chess teaches patience, persistence and builds confidence.

The St. Catherine’s Chess Team will also participate in the NC State Championship in March and the Catholic Schools Championship in April.
