A Hope House Book Bag & Clothing Giveaway will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hope House Inc., 334 N. Allen Road, Wake Forest. There will be free bookbags, gently used clothing, food and games. A child must be present to receive a book bag.

Wendell Parks and Recreation and Wendell Falls will co-host its first Summer Outdoor Movie Series on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Lakeside Pavilion. The evening feature presentation is “Jurassic World: “Fallen Kingdom.” The event is free to attend.

Comedy show at The Cotton Company

The next iteration of the monthly Between2Clouds Comedy showcase at The Cotton Company will be held Friday, Aug. 23 from 7-8:15 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event is for ages 18 and up. The Cotton Company is located at 306 S. White St., Wake Forest. Tickets can be purchased online and the cost is $5. Tickets can also be bought with cash at The Cotton Company.

Rolesville Luggage 4 Love

Rolesville Kiwanis will host its Luggage 4 Love event next week. The club will be collecting suitcases of all sizes, tote bags and backpacks. The club will donate these items to Mercy for America’s Children, which is an organization promoting adoption of children within the U.S. foster system based in Wake Forest.

The club will collect the items on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Rolesville Chamber Business After Hours event at Greenway Beer and Wine and on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Rolesville Farmers Farmer, 410 Southtown Circle.

Free adult yoga class at Flaherty Park Community Center

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will offer a free adult yoga class Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St.

The class is for participants ages 16 and older and will emphasize the healing benefits of yoga with slower movements and connection to the breath. All levels are welcome. No registration is required, but anyone planning to participate is encouraged to bring a yoga mat and two towels (one hand towel and one bath towel) and wear comfortable clothing.

The PRCR Department will offer a four-week adult yoga class beginning Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The cost for the four-week session is $32 for Wake Forest residents and $47 for non-Wake Forest residents. Online registration is available at http://wakeforestnc.recdesk.com/.

Brassfield Fire Department fundraiser

The Brassfield Fire Department, 1680 Highway 96 S., Franklinton, will host a Firemen’s Day Fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Barbecue chicken and pork will cost $10 per plate. Take-out is also available.

Tickets on sale for Wake Forest Trung Thu Moon Festival

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts is inviting area residents to celebrate diversity by participating in the second annual Trung Thu Moon Festival on Saturday, Sept. 14. The event will take place at the Renaissance Centre from 6-9 p.m.

Steeped in tradition, Tet Trung Thu, as it is known in Vietnam, or the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival as is known in America, typically occurs on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. During the Wake Forest Trung Thu Moon Festival, families will enjoy learning about the Vietnamese culture through music, stories, dance, food, and arts and crafts. The evening will conclude with a children’s lantern promenade.

Tickets are $8 plus tax for adults and $6 plus tax for seniors and children under 12 and can be purchased online at www.wakeforestrencen.org/tickets-events or at the Renaissance Centre Box Office, 405 S.
