The March 28 Rolesville Litter Sweep volunteer cleanup is canceled.

Salute to Servicewomen

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 187 is looking to find attendees for its 2020 Salute to Servicewomen. The Auxiliary will welcome and honor servicewomen during an afternoon reception at the American Legion Post 187 in Wake Forest. Originally scheduled for March 29, the event has been canceled and the axillary plans to reschedule.

Rockin’ the Forest

The final Rockin’ the Forest concert on Friday, March 27 featuring The Magnificents Band is canceled.

Easter egg hunt

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department canceled annual Easter Egg Hunt, set for Saturday, March 28, at E. Carroll Joyner Park.

Dementia education program

The Eastern North Carolina chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association canceled a dementia-related workshop set for March 30 at the Eastern Wake Senior Center in Wendell.

Domestic abuse workshop for churches

Called to Peace Ministries has postponed its day-long workshop, Building a Church-Wide Coordinated Response to Domestic Abuse. Originally set for April 2, a tentative date is now July 16. Pastors and church leaders will learn how to develop a policy and response team for their church. Lunch will be provided. Register online at

Called to Peace Ministries canceled its 2020 spring Wisdom Calls conference with Chris Moles, set for April 3-4 at Imago Del Church in Raleigh.

Rolesville Egg Rush

The free Rolesville Egg Rush egg hunt scheduled for Saturday, April 4, has been canceled.

Music at Mill Bridge

The spring Music at Mill Bridge concert featuring the Will McBride Group on Saturday, April 4, in Rolesville has been canceled.

Benefit for Belarus

Hearts for Children canceled its Benefit for Belarus on Saturday, April 4, at Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church in Louisburg.

Free tax preparation assistance

AARP Foundation has suspended its service where counselors prepare and e-file individual federal and N.C. state income tax returns at the senior centers in Louisburg and Franklinton.

Tax Day for federal and state tax returns has been postponed to July 15. The AARP Foundation intends to resume tax preparation assistance in Franklinton and Louisburg as soon as facilities become available. AARP staff plan to accommodate everyone who needs assistance. Information will be posted when it is decided to reopen the facilities.

Paper shredding event

The town of Wake Forest canceled its fifth annual paper-shredding event that was scheduled for April 20.

Science in the Summer

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is partnering with GSK and the UNC Morehead Planetarium & Science Center to offer “Science in the Summer” in July for rising second through eighth graders.

The free program will be offered at the Alston-Massenburg Center, 416 N. Taylor St.

Bunn Fun Run

The 10th annual Bunn Fun Run and Walk begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 at the Bunn High School track. The event includes a 5K, a 1 mile and a kid dash races.

Proceeds benefit A Blessing soup kitchen.

National Trails Day 5K

The Wake Forest Greenways Advisory Board will host a family-friendly 5K race as part of National Trails Day on Saturday, June 6 at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road. New this year, the day’s festivities will also include a Kids’ 1-Mile Fun Run for ages 12 and under.

Online registration for both races is available at The 5K entry fee is $25 before April 26; $30 before May 24; and $35 through June 6. Everyone who registers before May 24 will receive a race T-shirt. Same-day registrations will be accepted.

The Kids’ 1-Mile Fun Run is for children ages 12 and under and the entry fee is $5. All participants who register on or before Sunday, May 10, will receive a 2020 Fun Run medal.
