Tickets on sale for ‘Back to the ‘50s Sock Hop’

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts will host a “Back to the ’50s Sock Hop” on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 7-9 p.m. Put on blue suede shoes or pink poodle skirt and get ready to “rock around the clock.” Dance the night away to ’50s tunes spun by DJ Randy “Sting” of 1st Choice Customized DJ Services. Emcee and special music by Roseann McFadden. Ice cream floats and other special treats will be available for purchase at our concession stand. Brunswick stew sale

Franklinton American Legion Post 52 will sell its famous Brunswick stew on Saturday, Jan. 18, starting at 11 a.m. until all is sold. Stew quarts are $8 and pre-orders made by calling/texting Steve at 919-727-0087 or email with a name, phone number and number of quarts. Post 52 is located at 40 American Legion Road, Franklinton.

Hopkins Fire Department meeting

The biannaul meeting of the Hopkins Fire Department will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend. The address is 8933 Fowler Road.

‘Shades of Gospel’ music concert

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St., will host a lively and educational celebration of gospel music that connects all cultures, ages and backgrounds on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. The “Shades of Gospel” concert will highlight a range of traditional, southern and contemporary gospel music with featured performances by Grammy, Dove and Stellar Award-nominated artist Tim Bowman, Jr. and the Trinity Quartet. Tickets are $15 plus tax and may be purchased online at or at the Renaissance Centre Box Office, 405 S. Brooks St. The Shades of Gospel concert is partially funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
