The North Carolina Highway Patrol located a vehicle in a pond in the Hopkins Community near the Wake and Franklin County line Monday morning with no sign of the driver or any passengers.
The silver Chevrolet Malibu was located around 7 a.m. in Dukes Lake at the intersection of Fowler and Dukes Lake Roads. Officers entering the water found no occupants in the vehicle that was found submerge up to its roof.
Hopkins Fire Department was called to assist in removing the car from Dukes Lake and a search and rescue dive team has been brought in from Apex to check the bottom of the lake for anyone who may have been in the car, although there is no specific evidence that anyone is still in the water.
The Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident and officers are not sure if the car, which had significant body damage, was put in the pond intentionally or by accident.
Anyone with information about this vehicle or the driver of the vehicle should contact the North Carolina Highway Patrol at 919-733-3861 or by dialing *47 (*HP) on a cellular device.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
