WAKE FOREST — After dropping their first game of the season at Middle Creek, Heritage rebounded in a big way with a shutout win at home over South Garner 53-0 last Friday.
The Huskies poured on 46 points in the first half. Heritage quarterback Walker Harris scored a six-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter to make it 53-0.
Harris finished the game with three completions out of three attempts for 75 yards and a touchdown pass to Whit Kane. The senior wide receiver had two catches for 62 yards.
Trey Holloway led the Huskies in rushing with 93 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns. Jalen Campbell also had four carries for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Logan Ayscue contributed with six carries for 81 yards.
On defense, Marco Patierno led the Heritage squad with 11 tackles. Corey Peterson was right behind him with 10 tackles. Both players also registered two sacks. Ayden Gilmore led the Huskies with three sacks, plus nine tackles. Heritage recorded nine total sacks as a team.
Both Brodrick Gooch and Kailen Perry had two interceptions each. Nick Petruccelli blocked a punt and forced a fumble. Ayscue recovered the fumble.
With the win, Heritage improved to 1-1 overall for the season. Their 53 points on offense is the most since they beat Corinth Holders 57-0 on Oct. 5, 2018. The Huskies also recorded a shutout in their last win of the 2018 season in a 16-0 victory at Rolesville on Oct. 25.
Heritage will take on Cardinal Gibbons at home tonight at 7 p.m. The Crusaders are undefeated at 2-0 with wins over Wake Forest and Riverside.
