ZEBULON — Starting pitcher Nelson Hernandez didn’t allow a hit until the seventh inning to lead the Carolina Micro Brews over the Potomac Nationals, 4-1, in Single-A Carolina League action Thursday night at Five County Stadium.

The Mudcats (4-3 second half, 43-34 overall), an affiliate of the National League’s Milwaukee Brewers, played the contest as the Micro Brews. Carolina scored a pair of runs in the first and sixth innings to take an four-run lead over Potomac that lasted until the top of the seventh inning.

The Nationals (3-6, 33-42) finally broke through against Hernandez (8-5), whose throwing error led to Potomac’s only run. Jakson Reetz rapped a one-out double off Hernandez to end the no-hit bid as well as the shutout. Hernandez, who walked one and struck out seven batters, gave way to Justin Topa in relief to finish the inning. Clayton Andrews closed out the game for his 11th save of the season.

Leading the Micro Brews on the offensive end, Payton Henry hit a solo home run, and Julio Garcia hit an RBI single.

As a team, the Micro Brews hammered Potomac starter Nick Raquet (5-8) for four runs on five hits and one walk. Raquet struck out 10 batters in 5 2/3 innings.

The Mudcats resume the four-game series against Potomac on Friday at 7 p.m.
