WAKE FOREST — Suit up, heroes. You too, villains. The fourth Wake Forest ComiCon will return to town Saturday.

The annual convention will feature a dozen comic book vendors bringing 100,000 comics. Organizers said there will also be graphic novels, figurines, art, food and drinks for sale and a costume contest held in the afternoon.

The event is organized by Wake Forest comic book shop Play4Life Comics in conjunction with Wake Forest Downtown Inc.

“The ComiCon is a great opportunity for fans and families alike,” Alex Stover, Play4Life salesperson, said in a statement. “The festivities are fun for people looking for something to do with their kids and it will satisfy all that comic book fans are looking for.”

Returning vendors include Comic World, G3eks, SKWAD Graphics, Catseye Comics and artists Marlon Westray, Hannah Stayton, “Jeff the Yeti” creator Ryan Sheffler and Witchzilla. New this year are Catalyst Comics, Be Kind Rewind, Page 158 Books, White Metal Games and The Record Krate.

Sugar Magnolia Cafe and Emporium will offer food.

“We’ll have lots of local artists, a couple local comic book manufacturers, local gaming companies, more local businesses, more ephemera,” said Brandon Wright, Play4Life Comics owner. “A couple of our vendors are longtime collectors who have never sold comics before. I’m excited because you never know what they’ll bring.”

Attendees are encouraged to dress up in cosplay of their favorite characters from comics, manga, graphic novels or other media. Judges with grade cosplayers in three categories — adult, child and group — and winners can win up to $300 in prizes.

Competitors must register for the contest before it begins at 3 p.m.

Among the judges will be returning emcee R.J. Marchese, the owner of online comic book and cosplay forum The Variant. The Variant will also host a photo booth at the event.
