WAKE FOREST — For the second time in three years, Franklin Academy’s girls tennis team went the entire regular season without a loss after an 8-1 win against Rosewood at home Oct. 2.
The Patriots defeated all four of their conference opponents, with their last victory being a 9-0 sweep at Roxboro Community on Sept. 30.
Several Franklin Academy players went undefeated in their singles matches. Abby Armistead finished 3-0 at the No. 1 spot and 6-0 at the No. 2 spot this year. Helen Brockmann went 1-0 at No. 1, 6-0 at No. 2 and 6-0 at No. 3.
Both Sibillia twins of Sydney and Kali went undefeated with a combined record of 22-0 between the No. 2 through No. 6 singles spots.
In the North Central Athletic conference tournament, Brockmann defeated Billie Outlaw of Voyager 6-0, 6-1 in singles play to qualify for 1A east regionals.
Kali Sibillia beat Emily Rogers of Roxboro 6-1, 6-0 to qualify for regionals.
In doubles play, Anisah Sison and Armistead took down Grace Denny and Leah Solomon of Roxboro 6-1, 6-0 to qualify as a doubles team in regionals.
Ashlynn Stephan and Sydney Sabillia defeated Kate Flintom and Dallas Knight of Voyager 6-1, 6-4 to qualify as the other doubles team for Franklin Academy.
The Patriots played in the first round of the 1A state playoffs Wednesday, but the results were not reported as of press time. Franklin Academy’s singles and doubles players will compete in the 1A east regionals at Greenville today.
