WAKE FOREST — Franklin Academy’s volleyball squad failed to win a single set against Falls Lake Academy in their 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-9) loss at home on Aug. 28.
The Lady Patriots are still looking for their first win of the season. Franklin Academy head coach Jennifer Shearon said the girls did not get into a rhythm against Falls Lake.
“The main issue is that we’re not quite clicking yet,” Shearon said. “We’re having trouble with communication. We’re having trouble with coverage and knowing where we are on the court.”
Franklin Academy showed flashes in the first set, but they fell behind 13-3 and eventually lost 25-12. In the second set, the Patriots trailed by double-digits early at 12-2 and then the Firebirds finished them off at 25-11.
In the third and final set, Falls Lake completed the sweep. The Firebirds jumped ahead to 15-4 and ended the night with a 25-9 win. Falls Lake stayed undefeated at 3-0 overall with the victory, while Franklin Academy dropped to 0-5.
“This is a transition year for us,” Shearon said. “We’re still learning and growing as a team every day. We’re not where we want to be yet, but we’re getting there.”
Shearon will try to get her first win of the season and as a head coach as her Patriots take on East Wake Academy at home tonight at 6 p.m.
“The girls need to start thinking about the team and not about themselves,” Shearon said. “It’s not an individual sport. The girls have to learn that on their own. They have to learn how to play together and that takes time.”
