FRANKLINTON — Franklinton’s girls track and field team won first place in the Big East conference championship meet Saturday. The Lady Red Rams beat out Rocky Mount by two points for the title.
Mikala Kearney won first place for Franklinton in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.6 seconds.
Franklinton’s girls 4x100-meter relay team won first place by beating Fike with a time of 52.58 seconds. Their 4x200-meter relay team won first place by beating Rocky Mount with a time of 1:48.95. Their 4x400-meter relay team defeated Rocky Mount with a time of 4:18.97.
Lauren Esselborn won the girls 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.67. Jeniah Smith won the girls long jump with a distance of 16-feet-3-inches. Rebekah Smith won the girls high jump with a measurement of 5-feet-4-inches.
Franklinton’s boys team finished third overall behind Southern Nash and above Hunt. Steven Green was one of the top performers for the Red Rams with two first-place finishes. The senior won the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.11 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.54 seconds.
Nehemiah Judkins also had a great performance with three first-place finishes. He won the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.37 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.47 seconds. He also won the boys high jump with a measurement of 6-feet-2-inches.
The boys team also won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:29.89.
Franklinton will host the 3A east regional meet Saturday at 10 a.m.
