RALEIGH — Wakefield’s girls soccer team shut out Garner 7-0 at home Tuesday to win the first round of the 4A state playoffs.

The Lady Wolverines scored four goals in the first half and three in the second. The result was Wakefield’s 11th shutout win this season.

Jeanna Freeman and Corbin Reifschneider scored two goals each. Makaela Stokes, Kaitlyn Bouck and Madeline Wright all had one goal each. Bouck, Reifschneider, Freeman, Tareya Stokes, Kendall Crawford, Addie Lanter and Sam Francis all recorded an assist.

Wakefield will play at Laney High School tonight at 6 p.m. in the second round of the playoffs.
