RALEIGH — Wakefield’s girls basketball team has now won nine games in a row after convincing wins over Wake Forest and Knightdale this past week.
The Lady Wolverines took down the Knights 52-33 on the road Tuesday. Wakefield took off with a 21-6 run to open the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Knightdale put in more points, but the Wolverines still outscored them 11-9 to go into halftime up 32-15.
In the third quarter, Wakefield struggled offensively with only three points, while Knightdale poured in seven. That cut the deficit to 35-22.
In the final period, Wakefield stepped it up offensively and outscored Knightdale 17-11 to win the game 52-33.
With the victory, Wakefield improved to 15-3 overall and are undefeated in NAC 6 conference play at 5-0.
Wakefield is also undefeated at home so far this year at 8-0 thanks to a 55-12 blowout against Wake Forest on Jan. 24.
In that game, the Wolverines outscored the Cougars 22-7 in the third quarter to help them run away at the end.
It was a balanced scoring night offensively for Wakefield. Amirah Allen led with 15 points. Elise Williams was right behind her with 14 points. McKenna Blanton added 11 points and Jireh Reid contributed with 10 points.
Allen also led in rebounds with nine. Williams led the squad with six assists, five steals and two blocks.
Wakefield will play at Rolesville on Friday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m.
