I’m responding to a recent letter that you published that misrepresented Sen. Thom Tillis’ record when it comes to health care (“Tillis ought not thwart health care law,” April 16, 2020). Tillis understands what all North Carolinians know — that Obamacare was a disaster that drove up premiums and failed to deliver on its promises. Remember when Obamacare was supposed to let us keep our doctor?
Tillis wants to reform our health care system to make it more market-driven, which will reduce costs and expand choice. He wants to keep in place the good provisions of Obamacare, like protections for preexisting conditions and the ability for young adults to be on their parents’ plan until age 26. Tillis’ Protect Act achieves both of these goals.
Tillis also introduced landmark legislation to expand health care access to veterans, called the Mission Act, which President Trump signed into law in 2018.
Rather than attacking a senator who recognizes and responds effectively to human need, we should support him and his proven record of fighting for quality, affordable health care. Yes, Tillis opposes radical Medicare for All schemes that will only bankrupt our country and destroy our medical system. Shouldn’t we all?
