Lions make it back to the state championship game

RALEIGH — Neuse Christian Academy’s boys soccer team had another successful season and are now going for a state championship repeat after beating Lee Christian 7-0 at home Tuesday in the NCISAA state semifinals. The Lions had a slow start against the Falcons with only a 1-0 lead at halftime. Neuse Christian kicked things into gear with six unanswered goals in the second half to bury Lee Christian 7-0. Erico Paparelli was the player of the game for Neuse Christian with three goals and one assist in the win. Bryce Teller scored a goal and dished out three assists. Gustavo Freitas scored a goal and recorded two assists. Felipe Da Silva scored a goal and made one assist. Jackson Colgan recorded the last goal for the Lions.

Griffin Ogden was credited with the shutout victory at goalkeeper for Neuse Christian. The senior made six saves in 55 minutes of playing time. Colgan relieved him in the final 25 minutes and recorded two saves at goalkeeper. With the win, Neuse Christian improved to 16-3 overall and finished the regular season undefeated at home with a 6-0 record. The win against Lee Christian marked eight in a row for the Lions. They have outscored their opponents 90-16 so far this season. Neuse Christian also won their Mid-Carolina conference tournament by beating Grace Christian 3-2 at home Oct. 11. Teller, Paparelli, Da Silva, Evest Shee, Caleb Mocnik and Gustavo Bueno were all named all-conference. Neuse Christian will play at Greenfield High School in Wilson Saturday Oct. 26 for the NCISAA state championship.
