RALEIGH — Neuse Christian Academy’s boys soccer team held their state championship ring ceremony at the school Tuesday. The players and coaches received their reward for winning the NCISAA 1A state championship from last season.
The championship was the first one the Lions won in 25 years. Last year, Neuse Christian went 19-3 overall and 9-1 in Mid-Carolina conference play. The Lions also went undefeated at home at 7-0.
Neuse Christian defeated Greenfield High School out of Wilson 4-2 on Oct. 27, 2018. Joao Gabriel Trevisan scored two goals for the Lions in the championship match as a freshman. Both Caleb Mocnik and Tiruneh Giammarino scored a goal each for Neuse Christian.
This year, Neuse Christian is 5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Lions are coming off a 10-1 win at The Burlington School on Aug. 27.
So far this season, Bryce Teller leads Neuse Christian with seven goals and seven assists. Felipe Da Silva has scored six goals and recorded seven assists. Enrico Paparelli has put in five goals and dished out five assists.
Neuse Christian will play in the 47th annual Ravenscroft Soccer Invitational over the weekend. The Lions will be back at home Sept. 13 to play a rematch with The Burlington School at 5 p.m.
