WAKE FOREST — Rolesville, Wakefield and Franklin Academy’s girls tennis teams all made it past the first round of their respective state tournament matches. The Lady Patriots also won their second round match Tuesday. Franklin Academy defeated Warren County 5-0 at home. Anisah Sison, Sydney Sibillia, Kali Sibillia and Gugma Vidal all won their matches with a clean sweep of 6-0, 6-0. Isabelle Murphy defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles match. Wakefield defeated Pine Forest 6-0 in the first round of the 4A state tournament. Rolesville also beat New Bern in their first round match. The Rams played Broughton and the Wolverines took on Cardinal Gibbons in the second round, but rain caused the teams to postpone their second round match. In the singles championship tournament, Franklin Academy’s Helen Brockmann Emily Rogers of East Columbus 6-0, 6-0. She won her second round over Keerthi Avula from Raleigh Charter in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1. During the first set, Brockmann had a bad case of cramps in her lower leg, but after a medical time-out went on to win. The freshman was unable to play in the third round due to injuries and finished fourth in the state at the 1A level.

Kali Sibillia played Sydney Spear from J ames Holmes High School and lost 4-6, 6-7 in the first round. In doubles, Ashlynn Stephan and Sydney Sibillia took on a team from East Columbus and won 6-0, 6-0. In the second round, they played Cornerstone and won 6-2, 6-4. In the third round, they played the Raleigh Charter’s Vedika Birla and Lauren McClure and lost in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 3-6. In the third place match, Stephan and Sydney Sibillia finished strong to defeat Raleigh Charter’s Bourne and Levine 6-3, 6-2. Franklin Academy’s Anisah Sison and Abby Armistead played James Holmes in the first round and won 6-1, 6-0. In the second round, they played Research Triangle and won 6-0, 6-1. In the third round, Sison and Armistead played Raleigh Charter and won 6-0, 6-2. Then they faced Raleigh Charter’s No. 1 doubles team of Birla and McClure in the finals, beating them 6-1, 6-3 to win the 1A doubles state championship.
