WAKE FOREST — A driver sustained serious injuries this month when he crashed head-on into another vehicle while trying to pass a car, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

The crash happened Aug. 12 on Durham Road near Falls Cove Lane, about two miles west of the Wake Forest town limits just north of Falls Lake.

A crash report states Christopher Shane Gregory, of Durham, was a 1999 Ford passenger car west on Durham Road, a two-lane highway. He went to pass a car in front of him by pulling into the lane of oncoming traffic during a passing zone.

However, a 2007 Lincoln passenger car, driven by Adam Christopher White, was headed east at the time. The two cars crashed head-on, the report shows.

Gregory, who was not wearing a seat belt, was said to have had serious injuries after being pinned in his car. White had minor injuries. Both drivers were taken by Wake County EMS to WakeMed Hospital. Two passengers in White's vehicle had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Alcohol is not thought to be a factor.

Gregory was charged with failure to wear a seat belt, reckless driving, improper passing and unsafe lane change.
