WAKE FOREST — Local veteran organizations teamed up with Boy Scouts to place American flags on the graves of members of the military in time for Memorial Day.
The volunteers gathered Saturday, May 23 at the American Legion home on Holding Avenue before setting flags on 1,500 graves across 17 cemeteries in Wake Forest, Youngsville, Louisburg and Bunn.
“The turnout for this Memorial Day’s flag decoration seemed to be the best ever in spite of the complications presented by COVID-19,” said Joe Csuka, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. “I want to personally thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for their exhibition of patriotism in honoring those who served our nation and have fallen asleep”
This was the 15th year of the event.
