WAKE FOREST — Phyllis Jane “PJ” Vaughan Chalk, 80, of Wake Forest, entered heaven’s gates on June 16.

She leaves a legacy of love, laughter and commitment to family and friends. In addition to her career as an accounting professional, she was a confidant, counselor and beloved friend to many. A woman of great faith, she lived a life of hope and optimism and shared her joy with everyone. 

PJ is survived by her daughter Melanie Mattingly (Lloyd); sons Sammy Chalk (Angela Woodard) and; Kevin Chalk (Kerri); daughter-in-law Elizabeth Chalk Williams (Donnie); beloved grandchildren Amanda Prichard (Bobby), Dylan Chalk, Wyatt Mattingly, Mary Chalk, Michael Chalk, Garrett Mattingly, Amelia Chalk, Savannah McAninch, Lucas Chalk and Kyndell Williams; and beautiful great-grandchildren Leena and Jordyn Prichard; sisters Carolyn Vaughan McGee (Nathan); Pat Vaughan Young (Doug); and sister-in-law Judy Vaughan.

Predeceased in death by her son Wiley Gene Chalk, Jr and brother Charles Vaughan.

A memorial service was held Thursday at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church at 3328 Forestville Road, Raleigh.  Visitation began at 2 p.m. and service followed at 3 p.m. The family hosted a celebration of her life at PJ’s home following the service.
