WENDELL — Eastern Wake County is getting its first Publix.
The grocery chain will build a new location in the Wendell Falls community, Wendell Falls announced Wednesday. An opening date has not been announced.
The 48,000-square-foot store will be at the northwest corner of Wendell Falls Parkway and Taylor Road. Publix expects to hire about 130 people to staff the store.
“The growth in this area as well as requests from loyal Publix customers to open a store here contributed to us bringing Publix’s premier service and quality to Wendell,” said Publix spokeswoman Kim Reynolds in a statement. “We look forward to serving this great community.”
Wendell Falls is owned by North America Sekisui House and developer Newland. The area includes several residential subdivisions and is planned to have more than 2 million square feet of commercial and retail development.
“Wendell Falls and the surrounding community have been expanding at an impressive rate,” said Newland Vice President Dan Klausner in a statement. “We’re thrilled about our partnership with Publix so that we can offer a high-quality grocery to accommodate the rapid growth in east Wake County.”
