ROLESVILLE - Rolesville's boys basketball team had their best offensive outing of the season with a 70-58 win over Franklinton at home Friday Dec. 13.

The Rams opened the night with a 13-6 lead and then went into the second quarter of 18-11. In the second period, Rolesville had a 32-24 lead, but then Franklinton made a 3-point shot at the buzzer to make the score 32-27 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Rolesville exploded with a 22-7 run to take a 54-34 lead. Franklinton cut the deficit at 54-38 before the end of the period.

In the fourth quarter, Rolesville took complete control of the game by adding 16 points to their total, making the final score 70-58.

"We just settled in," Rolesville head coach Thurman Jordan said. "We didn't want to take a lot of jump shots. We have a lot of guys who are good at attacking the basket and finishing at the rim. We've been strong at free throws. We wanted to stay aggressive."

Donavon Martin led Rolesville in scoring with 16 points. The junior guard also added four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Two other big playmakers for the Rams were the Brandon duo of Brandon Williams and Brandon Johnson. Williams scored 10 points with two rebounds and two assists. Johnson had 11 points with nine rebounds and two assists.

"Brandon Johnson has been a strong post presence for us," Jordan said. "He developed his post game over the offseason. He can get rebounds. He's averaging a double-double for us. Brandon Williams has been playing a lot at point guard for us. He's doing a good job stepping up in his scoring role."

With the loss, Franklinton dropped to 2-6 overall and are now 0-3 on the road.

With the win, Rolesville improved to 4-3 overall and have now won two games in a row. Jordan said if the team cuts down on giving the ball away, they can get a win streak going.

"We just need to work on controlling our turnovers," Jordan said. "That's been a big problem for us. If we cut down on that, we'll be a better team."

Rolesville will play in the South Granville Holiday Invitational tournament Dec. 26. Franklinton will play at South Granville at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Dec. 20).
