ZEBULON — Authorities are investigating a crash in Zebulon Saturday that was caused by gunfire.

One person was injured in the shooting, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a shooting call around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of N.C. Highway 96 and Tucker Dale Trail near the Johnston County line. They found one person in an overturned vehicle who had been shot.

According to the sheriff's office, witnesses saw the vehicle and another vehicle speeding down Highway 96 toward Johnston County. People in one vehicle began shooting at the other vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle lost control, and the vehicle landed on its side in someone's front yard. The other vehicle sped away from the scene.
That driver of the crashed car, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital. The sheriff's office said the person is connected to a carjacking in Knightdale that happened Friday.
The Wake County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information about the shooting to call 919-856-6900.
