WAKE FOREST — The first place and unbeaten Ghost Runners of the North Wake Men’s Baseball league took advantage of the Swamp Donkeys’ low numbers in an 8-4 win Sunday at Flaherty Park.

Despite only having nine players, Wake Forest’s Swamp Donkeys put up a solid effort against the best team in the league. Pitcher Dan Thomson pitched all seven innings for the Swamp Donkeys and struck out nine batters. Ken Glanville led the Swamp Donkeys with two hits and three RBIs.

This is the second time this season the Swamp Donkeys have lost to the Ghost Runners. In the season opener April 28, the Ghost Runners edged out a narrow 5-4 victory.

The week before the Swamp Donkeys lost to the Ghost Runners, they blew out the Wake Forest Wasps 20-4 at Heritage on June 30. Jason Boozer was the MVP of that game with five RBIs, including a home run. The Swamp Donkeys took an early lead with 10 runs in the second inning.

Derrick Wells and Erick Castillo both had a home run each in the blowout win. The team finished with 18 total hits that contributed to 20 runs.

After the loss to the Ghost Runners, the Swamp Donkeys are in second place for the season at 6-2 overall. They will play the Braves on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Heritage High School.
