WAKE FOREST — The Veterans of Foreign Wars presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Wake Forest Krispy Kreme in recognition of the store’s “unselfish exhibition of Patriotism.”

Wake Forest Memorial Post No. 8466 of the VFW plans an annual Memorial Day flag decoration program where each deceased veteran’s grave has an American flag placed in honor of their sacrifice and service to the country.

Veteran organizations from Wake Forest have been decorating veteran’s graves on Memorial Day for over 15 years. With the assistance of local volunteers; civic organizations; scout troops, dens, packs and brownies; and other local citizens, the graves of over 1,300 veterans interned in 16 area cemeteries were decorated.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts on Retail Drive, Wake Forest, has contributed tasty treats for the volunteers assisting in this effort over the years.
