WAKE FOREST — S. Daniel Petretich, 76, of Wake Forest, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020. He was born Feb. 13, 1943 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late Anne Ugran Petretich and John Steven Petretich.
Daniel studied Math and Physics, receiving a BA from Hiram College, BSEE from Carnegie Mellon University, and MS in Physics at the University of Miami.
Dan served in Southeast Asia with the U.S. Army Engineers planning electrical and communications projects for base support. He worked in Washington, D.C., and California as a consultant to various government project offices for electronic systems development and implementation.
His joys were fishing, traveling to the beach and reading the latest book on American history. Dan was an avid sports fan. He particularly enjoyed baseball, which he played in high school and college.
Dan and his wife Mary moved to North Carolina in 2005 to be near family. He was a supporter and member of Wake Forest American Legion Post 187, serving a term as Adjutant. He also worked with his wife Mary to support the arts in Wake Forest as a volunteer with ARTS Wake Forest.
Daniel leaves behind his wife Mary Petretich of 30 years; his brother John David Petretich and partner Denise Palus; children Christian Petretich and wife Sara of Alexander, Virginia; Michael Petretich and wife Terri of Georgetown (Washington, D.C.); and John Petretich and wife Susie of Raleigh; and grandchildren Olivia, Aidan, Lucas, Russell and Maren.
The family held a celebration of Daniel’s life on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at The Corner of Wake Forest, 102 North Ave.
