Swamp Donkeys win second game in a row

WAKE FOREST — Rob Woyicki, head coach of the Swamp Donkeys, received an early birthday gift when his team defeated the Bull Durham Beer Company 13-2 at Heritage High School on Sunday.

The Swamp Donkeys got things going early in the first inning. Chase Barnes singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. In the fifth inning, the Swamp Donkeys put up five runs. Woyicki, Jordan Chounere, and Rock Faison all had singles, plus a double by Ken Glanville.

Dan Thomson earned the victory on the mound for Swamp Donkeys. He lasted four innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one.

At the end of the day, the Swamp Donkeys totaled 11 hits. Tyler Owen, Taylor, Thomson and Barnes all managed multiple hits for Swamp Donkeys. Barnes, Taylor, and Owen all had two hits to lead Swamp Donkeys.

With the win, the Swamp Donkeys formed a streak of two wins in a row after beating the Blue Jays 7-4 last week. That improves their overall record to 8-2-1. The Swamp Donkeys are still in second place behind the Ghost Runners, who are 10-1 overall.

Wake Forest will play the Pine Ryderz at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Heritage High School.
