WAKE FOREST — The Wake Forest Swamp Donkeys bested the Pine Ryderz 9-3 at Heritage High School Sunday in their weekly North Wake Men’s Baseball league matchup.
Even though the Pine Ryderz scored the first inning, the Swamp Donkeys got the last laugh. Dan Thomson singled in the top of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. Wake Forest added two more runs in the top of the third.
The Swamp Donkeys extended their lead with three more runs in the fourth inning. Wake Forest cruised from there on their way to a 9-3 victory.
Rob Woyicki, the head coach and starting pitcher for the Swamp Donkeys, allowed one run on two hits. He also struck out three runners in two innings. Justin Rogers, Erick Castillo and Chase Barnes all got playing time on the mound. Barnes finished the game at pitcher for the final three innings.
The Swamp Donkeys recorded 13 total hits. Three players collected more than one hit for their team.
With the win, the Swamp Donkeys have now won three in a row to make their overall record 9-2-1. They are ahead of the Pine Ryderz for second place by two games. The Swamp Donkeys are behind the Ghost Runners for first place by only one game. Wake Forest will play the Renegades on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Flaherty Park.
