Two Huskies finish in top 35 at state golf tournament

PINEHURST — Heritage’s Mary Sears Brown finished tied for 13th overall at the 4A state championship golf tournament and her teammate Heather Appelson tied for 34th overall at Pinehurst on Tuesday.

Brown shot a 77 in the first round and improved by one stroke in the second round with a 76 to finish with a total score of 153 after 36 holes. Appelson ended the tournament with a total score of 164 after an 84 in the first round and an 80 in the second round.

Wakefield’s Lotte Fox finished her high school career 37th overall at the state tournament with a total score of 165.

Wake Forest’s Catherine Vivongsy had a solid outing with a total score of 170, which put her tied for 42nd overall. Wakefield’s Terra Schmitt tied for 46th overall with a score of 172. Mary Kathryn Hederick of Wake Forest came in tied for 51st overall with a score of 174. Heritage’s Vivian Shillingsburg cracked the top 55 with a score of 177.

Heritage came in seventh place as a team behind Reagan High School. The Huskies scored a total of 255. Wake Forest finished 10th overall behind Leesville Road with a score of 283.
