Two pitchers combine for Swamp Donkey shutout

WAKE FOREST — The Wake Forest Swamp Donkeys defeated Bull Durham Beer Company 10-0 Sunday at Heritage High School as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

Starter Rob Woyicki and reliever Tyler Brown shut down Bull Durham with Brown coming in to close out the final three innings.

In the first inning, Wake Forest’s Chase Barnes tripled on a 1-2 count, bringing home teammate Ken Glanville. Barnes would later score on a Justin Rogers single.

The Swamp Donkeys put up five more runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower was led by Jacob Geotz, Barnes, Rogers, Carlos Mata and Rock Faison, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Woyicki was the winning pitcher for Swamp Donkeys. He allowed two hits and no runs in the start, striking out one. Brown threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen to capture the save.

Overall, the Swamp Donkeys collected seven hits. Barnes and Rogers each collected two hits to lead Wake Forest. Barnes scored on each of his plate appearances he had today.

With the win, Wake Forest improved to 2-0 for the season. The Swamp Donkeys will take the next weekend off to celebrate the 4th of July.

Last year’s regular season champs will be back in action July 12 to play a double-header against the Wake Forest Wasps. The action kicks off at 1:00 pm at Heritage 300 field.
