ZEBULON — Police are looking for leads after unknown suspects entered several homes and damaged pipes, causing water damage to floors and walls last week.
The Zebulon Police Department estimated the vandals caused about $150,000 in damage to five homes in the 200 block of Rustling Way last Friday, a press release said. Rustling Way is in the Autumn Lakes subdivision off Old Bunn Road and most of the homes were newly constructed.
According to Lt. Ashley Dixon, the suspects entered the homes, in one case through an unlocked back door, without permission. The suspects then cut slits in pipes behind toilets or underneath sinks “causing water to continuously run,” Dixon said.
In one home, the vandals turned the faucet on a bathtub around, causing the water to spill onto the floor “and ruin a majority of the floor leaking into the ceiling below,” Dixon added.
Police are offering a $500 reward for information that may help lead to a suspect.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Zebulon Police Department at 919-823-1818 or Eastern Wake Crime Stoppers at 919-366-2746. Callers can remain anonymous.
