Virtual NFL Draft had funny moments, odd picks

We finally have some sports to talk about after the completion of the 2020 NFL Draft. The event was done virtually with everyone announcing their picks via video chat.

There were some big moments that happened in this year’s draft. Some of them were not even football related, but I’ll get to those later.

Let’s take a look at some of the moments that stuck out to me personally.

Best picks: There’s the obvious good picks, like Joe Burrow going No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals and Chase Young going No. 2 overall to the Washington Redskins. The pick that I think will turn their respective franchise around is the No. 5 overall pick Tua Tagovailoa to the Miami Dolphins.

Before his hip injury, Tagovailoa was projected to fight for that No. 1 overall spot with Burrow. However, due to health concerns, he slipped down to No. 5, which still isn’t that bad.

The Dolphins desperately need a quarterback and Tagovailoa can be that franchise guy for them, if he stays healthy.

I also liked LSU linebacker Patrick Queen to the Baltimore Ravens at No. 28 overall. He can do a lot of things at the linebacker position that the Ravens need to bolster their defense. He’s no Ray Lewis, but he’s good enough to become a young leader for Baltimore.

Most surprising picks: I’m just going to go ahead and say it. The Green Bay Packers selecting Utah State quarterback Jordan Love with the No. 26 overall pick came out of nowhere.

The Packers already have a good four to five years left of Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback. He’s good enough to help his team win a Super Bowl right now. I know it’s kind of ironic, but the Packers did the same thing back in 2005 when they selected Rodgers in the first round while Brett Favre still have some years of football left in him.

Nevertheless, Love can learn a ton from playing behind Rodgers for the next couple of years. Who knows? Maybe something will happen that will allow Love to showcase his talent earlier than expected. For right now, I thought it was a confusing move for Green Bay.

Speaking of quarterbacks, Jalen Hurts to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles already have a franchise guy with Carson Wentz. However, due to Wentz’s injury issues, Hurts might actually end up being a great pick. He’s an athletic quarterback who can be utilized very well under head coach Doug Pederson. Only time will tell if the second round choice will pay off in the long run.

Worst picks: I’m going to start with No. 19 pick Damon Arnette going to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Ohio State cornerback isn’t necessarily a bad player. I just thought the Raiders could have used that pick to select someone better with more talent. They could have easily snagged Arnette in the second round if they wanted to.

Another pick I thought was a real head-scratcher was the New England Patriots taking kicker Justin Rohrwasser in the fifth round. Taking a kicker in the fifth round is not really a bad idea, but Rohrwasser isn’t even listed in the top ten best kickers to come out of college this year. Maybe the Patriots know something that we don’t. However, I thought they could have used that fifth round pick to take a quarterback or some other offensive weapons.

Funniest moments from the Draft: Now we’ll look at the best, nonfootball moments from this year’s virtual NFL Draft. We knew we were going to see something entertaining since everyone was giving us an inside scoop into their own homes. Speaking of homes, Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has got it made. If you Google his name, his house is the first thing that pops up. Check it out!

Anyway, I thought the funniest moment came from the camera catching CeeDee Lamb’s girlfriend trying to take his phone and he snatched it away from her immediately.

He came out later and said that his agent was calling him via FaceTime on his second phone and his girlfriend, Crymson Rose, was trying to answer for him while he was on his other phone. At the time, it was something Twitter had a fun day talking about.

But I think the funniest moment came when the camera showed Isaiah Wilson getting drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the first round. His girlfriend came to give him a hug and show her love. Then Wilson’s mom literally pulls her off of him to get out of the camera shot. She yeeted her off the screen! That was pretty hilarious.

So there you have it. That’s what I thought about this year’s NFL Draft. As a Redskins fan, I would give my team a B+ for its draft. I thought it should have used a high draft pick to select a cornerback, considering Washington doesn’t have any standout secondary players on its roster right now. Oh well. Maybe they’ll prove me wrong this season.

What did you think of the NFL Draft? How do you think your team did? Let me know and I look forward to hearing from you.
