Wake Forest goes par for the course at Wakefield

RALEIGH — Everyone had a fairly rough day at Wakefield TPC Golf Course, but Wake Forest proved victorious once again with their second first-place finish in a row Tuesday. The Cougars defeated host team Wakefield by two strokes to finish with a total score of 137 to Wakefield’s 139 in the conference golf match. Catherine Vivongsy was the low scorer for Wake Forest with an individual score of 42. Mary Katherine Hederick was second on the Cougars squad with a 47 and Morgan McPhatter shot a 48. Wakefield’s Lotte Fox was the low medalist of the contest with an individual score of 40. Her teammates Terra Schmitt and Tori Napolitano scored 48 and 51 respectively. Heritage came in third with a team score of 143. Heather Appelson shot a 43, while her teammates Vivian Schillingsburg and Amanda Olson both scored 50 each.

Corinth Holders finished fourth with a team score of 154 and Rolesville came in last at fifth place with 174. After three conference matches, Wake Forest is alone at first place with two first-place finishes and one runner-up match. Heritage is right behind them at second in the NAC 6, but Wakefield is closing in at third place. The top three players in the conference so far are Fox with an average individual score of 38, Appelson at 41 and Vivongsy at 41.3. The next NAC 6 conference match will be Tuesday Oct. 1 at Riverwood Golf Course at 3:30 p.m. Corinth Holders will be the host school for the event.
