WAKE FOREST — A Wake Forest Police Department officer who investigators said admitted to viewing child pornography was fired from his job last month, town officials said this week.

Cpl. Alex Sims was fired Jan. 13, three days after the Wake Forest Police Department learned Sims was under investigation by the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, according to a town spokesman.

The firing was first reported by local media on Monday.

Anjanette Grube, a spokesperson for the SBI, said Tuesday that Sims “hasn’t been arrested at this point and it’s an ongoing investigation.”

Sims, 35, was placed on paid administrative leave Jan. 10 after the SBI informed Wake Forest police of the investigation, town officials said.

A copy of Sims’ termination notice, provided by the town, claimed Sims admitted to viewing child pornography and images of bestiality online.

The notice also claims Sims lied to investigators about a false profile name he used online and that Sims did not inform the police department that he was under investigation by another agency, which is town policy.

Sims was hired by the Wake Forest Police Department in April 2013. He was promoted to corporal in January 2019.
