Longtime subscribers of The Wake Weekly have seen a great deal of change to their local newspaper in recent months. We can’t thank you enough for your continued patience and readership.

We also have some new readers joining us this week, and with that, we’d like to welcome you to our growing community newspaper. A lot has transpired in recent months to get you to this page you are reading today.

From the January sale of the paper by former publisher Todd Allen to The Wilson Times Co., to the debut of a new, refined design, to the hiring of a new editor and reporter, there’s been no shortage of steps that have led you here.

In last week’s edition, we announced the purchase and consolidation of The Zebulon Times into The Wake Weekly, meaning our newspaper has expanded its coverage of Wake Forest, Rolesville and Franklinton to include Zebulon, Wendell and Knightdale.

What a week for that purchase to be finalized, too, given Monday’s EF2 tornado that touched down in the Zebulon and Wendell areas. We have provided extensive coverage of the twister and the damage it caused online and on today’s front page, which, for better or worse considering the circumstances, has served as your welcome to our family.

This edition of the paper is just the start of our plan to make The Wake Weekly the home for all things northern and eastern Wake County as well as Franklin County. As the days and weeks go by, our editorial staff will continue to work as hard and as diligently as we have since we arrived a couple months ago to bring our readers the coverage they deserve.

The Wake Weekly editorial staff has learned a lot about the communities we cover in a short amount of time, and we still have plenty of work to do on that front. Now that Zebulon, Wendell and Knightdale are in the fold, we expect there to be more growing pains, but we are excited about what the future holds.

It’s going to be a process, but as the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers infamously coined during its rebuilding phase in recent years, we ask that you “Trust the Process” as The Wake Weekly shifts its coverage to include more of eastern Wake while also maintaining its roots in northern Wake and Franklin counties.

You can help us as we continue to make this transition together. If you have any story ideas you would like to share, have feedback — good or bad — or just want to talk, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. You can contact editor Logan Martinez by phone at 919-424-1780, reporter Shawn Taylor at 919-424-1778, and sports editor Marty Simpkins at 919-424-1779. If you prefer email communication, you can reach us at news@wakeweekly.com or sports@wakeweekly.com.

Thank you for reading, and we look forward to ushering in this new era of community coverage with you.
