MIDDLESEX — A Wendell man was injured when gunfire erupted Saturday at a birthday party in rural Nash County, according to authorities.
Cory Davis Forte II, 25, of Edgemont Road near Wendell, was shot in the right arm. Someone at the party brought him to Wilson Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, said Nash County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Brandon Medina.
Deputies with the Nash County Sheriff’s Office responded at 1:40 a.m. Saturday to a house at 11260 Cedar Lake Court south of Middlesex in response to a disturbance call.
“Upon arriving, deputies were informed that a birthday party had been going on when an altercation broke out between several people at the party,” Medina said.
Deputies learned an exchange of gunfire occurred between individuals involved in the fight, Medina said.
“The victim, Cory Forte, and other individuals at the scene were not fully cooperative with the investigation,” Medina said. “Forte and other partygoers couldn’t provide any information as to who was involved in the altercation or who was involved in the exchange of gunfire.”
A sheriff’s office evidence technician processed the crime scene.
During the investigation and canvass of the scene, deputies discovered shots were fired into three other homes. Those cases are being investigated as shooting into an occupied dwelling, which is considered aggravated assault, a serious felony in North Carolina.
Medina said the investigation is ongoing. Any information related to the shooting can be relayed to the Nash County Sheriff’s Office at 252-459-4121 or Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.
