LOUISBURG — William Leon Basham, 79, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday evening, Aug. 6, 2020.
He was born in Raleigh County, West Virginia, the son of the late Mary Gold Jones and William Michael Basham. He was a firm believer in having a personal relationship with Christ and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired building contractor.
He was a loving husband and father who became a father to many who were fatherless. He served in many capacities, both in and out of the church. As a successful business owner, he strove to be a godly example to all of his employees and customers alike.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kitty S. Basham; son, William “Bill” Basham Jr. and wife, Karen, of Youngsville; daughter, Stephanie Farley and husband, Johnny, of Louisburg; son, Stephen Basham and companion, Toni Davis, of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Jennifer Murphy and husband, Jason, of Sanford, Jonathan Basham of Washington state, Christopher Farley and wife, Patti, of Middlesex and Taylor Farley of Louisburg; great-grandchildren, Elijah Russell, Isaiah Russell, Reuben Webster, Savannah Gregory and Wyatt, Caroline and Holden Murphy; sisters, Ilene Barr of Beaver, West Virginia and Aretta Harvey of MacArthur, West Virginia; and brother, Ronald Basham and wife, Sue, of Wake Forest.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
